Photo Of The Day: Valladolid Waiting Room

I assumed that this was a doctor’s office, what else could it be? But I suppose it could have been a waiting room for just about anything.

Valladolid Waiting Room

It was late in the afternoon and I had just been to the corner store where my request for agua fría got me four avacados. The storekeeper and I had a good laugh once we got it all straightened out.

I left the store and crossed the street (as I remember it) and passed the open door of this waiting room. There were two doors to this waiting room, the one in the photo with the late afternoon sun streaming in, and the one that I am standing in, observing. I stood there for quite a while studying the incredible blue patchiness of the wall with its No Fumar sign, the empty chairs lined up against it, and the light streaming across the tiled floor.

I assumed that this was a doctor’s office, what else could it be? But I suppose it could have been a waiting room for just about anything. In the time that I was there, which seemed like ten minutes, I did not see a person – professional, waiting, or otherwise.

There could have been someone watching the room from somewhere, it seems to happen that way in The Yucatan. It takes a while to get waited on – the heat makes getting up and doing anything such an effort that people want to make sure you are worth getting up for.

After pondering the waiting room photo I’ve concluded that it is not a doctor’s office but rather a small dance hall. The chairs are for the ladies to wait for a gentleman to arrive and then accompany them to the dance floor.

Hmmm … that is a thought. I wondered why there might be so much open space on the floor. I wonder if anyone else has passed by this room on a stop over in town and wondered the same thing?
