One of my favorite reasons for visiting The Yucatan is to walk among the archaeological sites on the peninsula.
Each one has its own unique personality, look, and feel. Each one is known for at least one unique feature. Ek-Balam has its ‘angel’. Tulum has its setting on the cliff overlooking the sea and a wall that surrounds the compound. Chichen-Itza has the famous El Castillo and The Observatory, along with a New Seven Wonders of the World status. Coba has miles of bike paths and stone buildings popping out of the jungle. Uxmal has the mythology of the dwarf, its unique setting, and a palapa full of stone penises.
There are other archaeological sites on the peninsula. Ones that I have not yet seen. Ones that I plan to go to on my next trip down to that part of the world.
If you have been to The Yucatan, tell us about your favorite archaeological site. If you haven’t yet been, tell us where you want to go and why.

By far, my favorite site is Labnah. Not only is it peaceful and has some of the most interesting ruins, it’s usually almost completely empty.
I love it when the sites are almost empty – so much room to let the imagination run wild! I haven’t been to Labnah (yet), but I did like Uxmal because it felt like home and Coba because the jungle growth made it much more of an exploration.
